We had a pretty long day planned for today. The weather looked good and the winds were supposed to be. We started out heading south down the Detroit River. We started just north of Grosse Ile. The wind was light and out of the south west so we had a close reach. We were able to use the sails to help the motor but did not want to just sail as we are unfamiliar with the depths and the channel isn't that wide. Ships also can pass by so we played it safe. When we hit Lake Erie we turned a little bit east so the wind direction now hit our boat at a beam reach. The winds were light and variable, and it was wavy. Lake Erie is shallow which makes it have more waves than the deeper lakes. The winds varied between just enough to not enough, so we did turn on the motor once for a while. Then as luck would have it, the winds picked up to about the maximum we like with full sails. All of the sudden we were going very fast (for a sailboat). Good wind speed and direction helped us arrive at Put-In-Bay earlier than planned.

View of Motor City Marina as we left. Arrival pictures were bad due to the sun being in our faces.
A ship that we were on a collision course with. We temporarily changed course long before anything happened.
Approaching Put-In-Bay. The harbor is at the right.
The Put-In-Bay lighthouse.
Docked right in front of the yacht club. Notice all of the boats moored. It was very busy because it is still part of the 4th weekend. We were supposed to be on a mooring ball but we called one hour out to see if anything opened up and they gave us the up front close spot.

We stayed here last year as well. There where high wave then too, but last year the came into the bay and this year they went across the bay opening. That made for two much different dockings. Last year we essentially crashed into the dock. This year went super smoothly. This is a full service yacht club with a bar, restaurant area, hall for events, and bathrooms with showers. It is all very new looking.
We ate dinner at the Put-In-Bay Brewery. Again I had fried walleye, this time as a sandwich. This was very lightly breaded and was not the least bit greasy. It was very good. They had three of their own beers and several others. They had the light wheat beer that was OK, and three stouts, which I didn't try. I found it strange that they'd have so many stouts in the summer. I also had a can of Rhinegeist Brewery (from Cincinnati) Truth IPA. It is a double that is very malty and not too bitter. There is also a German Biergarten that we stopped at. We ate lunch there last year. This year we just had a beer. They have various bratwurst including currywurst. They served Stiegl from Salzburg Austria.
