Port Huron
Today's sail started with moderate to high winds and pretty high waves so we had two reefs in the mainsail and adjusted the size of the foresail as winds changed. The waves and changing winds made it difficult for the autopilot. When winds are light, the waves have a greater affect on steering; slow speed equals less responsive steering. The autopilot would oversteer and not be able to recover. The direction was a close reach to the direction we wanted to go, so an oversteer would put the wind on the wrong side of the sail. The winds stayed but the waves lessened as the day went on and it was quite a pleasurable sail. The temperature on the lake was very nice but when we got to the marina it was quite warm. We docked a couple of miles down the St. Clair river and the into the Black River from there. So we were quite a way inland with more heat and less wind.
This is a municipal marina that we stayed at last year with slips on the seawall of the Black River. It's right next to the community college. Since it's one long row of slips, the trip the the bathrooms/showers is pretty far. WIFI is open provided by the college.
We ate a a restaurant called Vintage Tavern. It was a nice place with a really nice bar. The had the standard Michigan craft beers from Bell's and Founders as well as Great Lakes. I have the Whitefish special that was excellent, with rice and asparagus. We also stopped at Black and Blue Brewery which was part of a Wings place. I did a flight and all of the beers were just average.
I was nice to meet you at the picnic table last night. Thank you for visiting Port Huron and saying hi to our dog Rosie
ReplyDeleteIt was nice meeting you. It looks like a great riverfront community of boaters. Our 10 minute walk took us over an hour to get back from dinner because we said hi and chatted with people.
